Do you want to build a coop for chickens and want to get it built by the end of the day?
If you have decided that you want to raise chickens, you want to be sure that take a few details into consideration before you get started.
You don’t have to get all fancy with your design so the process is pretty simple. You can build one from scratch or even order one online if you don’t feel your building skills are up to par. Either way, do a little research to learn the basics.
First, you will have to come to a decision about your budget. If your funds are low, you may be able to find some free pallets or wood.
Next, you should decide on the size you are going to need. From here, that will determine the supplies you will need as well.
Decide where on your property that the coop will go. Keep a few things in mind when trying to decide where it is going to be.
You want a place that is easily accessible and not too far from your home. You will be going to it daily to gather eggs or to feed them.
You will want an area that has a little bit of shade so that the chickens won’t be sweltering on those extremely hot days. It’s good to have a few trees around the coop for a wind barrier on those freezing days too.
Remember that the outside of the coop will have to have a yard for the chickens to go out. You will need a fence with some chicken wire so your chickens can’t get out. Make sure it’s high enough so the birds can’t get out. Even though they don’t really fly, they can use their wings to gain some height when trying to get over the fence. This will keep them safe too.
You will need to build a gate so that you can get in and out of it quickly and easily.
It is possible to build the chicken coop in a day but you will probably need some more time to get the fence up and to get the inside nice and cozy for your chickens. Be sure that you place the nesting boxes in a way that will make it easy for you to clean. Chickens can be quite dirty and you will need to hose it down to clean it properly.
